Photon: General
Introduction
The Photon is a compact, lightweight mid-drive ebike conversion solution rated at 750W and 110 N.m by default. You can find more information about the system and it's options directly on our website here. The Photon can be purchased directly from the CYC website here or an authorized reseller.
Use Case
The Photon is recommended if you'd like to have a simple, quiet system that is virtually maintenance-free. This is a suitable solution if you will be primarily using pedal assist only and want something comparable to factory-built ebikes. If you will be relying on the use of a throttle above pedal assist, then it is advised to go for either the X1 Stealth or X1 Pro instead.
The Photon is a lightweight and compact motor that weighs around 3.2 kg without cranks. The cables exit from the top of the motor which gives a neat conversion without sacrificing ground clearance
The Photon is configurable in 250W and 750W power options. This also includes built-in torque sensing comparable to OEM ebikes with systems like Bosch or Shimano motors.

X6P controller
The photon has an integrated controller built into the motor's main assembly and is called the X6P making the controller a part of the X-Series controllers manufactured, programmed, and designed internally by CYC's development team. It can handle 90A peak phase current and requires 30A continuous and 40A peak battery current to run its maximum performance. See more about the X-Series Controllers here.
Rated Power and Speed Limit
Out-of-the-box, the kit will be set at 750W but you can set the limits via the mobile app to be 250W and the 250W sticker will also be provided by default.
CYC also has a locked EPAC firmware available upon request. This is an 250W rated, 25kph (or 15mph) street-legal version. Contact us here or inquire at an authorized reseller. Note that some resellers may supply the Photon with the 250W firmware by default. This information will be specified by the reseller.
Photon Pre-built eBikes
CYC has partnered with various ebike brands that have chosen to power their ebikes with the Photon as the primary drive unit.
These brands include Coast Cycles and Aevon Bikes.
Photon & APT 750c Display
The 750c display will not work with Photon.
Photon Controller
The Photon X6P has an integrated controller built in the motor, the rating of that controller is 90A phase, battery 40A peak.
Photon Street Legal Limits
Out-of-the-box, the Photon kit will be set at 750W, but you can set the legal limits via Ride Control app to be 250W. Please note that by default the 250W sticker will be provided.
