Photon: Switching Between Options

The below information will help you switch between various bottom bracket options or chainring sizes if you already have a Photon on your bike. You may need to purchase parts separately if you want to move the Photon to a different bike if that bike does not have the same bottom bracket or if you want to change your chainring size. You can purchase these parts directly from the CYC parts store or inquire to get specific parts that may not be listed on our website. 

IMPORTANT: If you'd like to purchase parts and you purchased your Photon from an authorized reseller, we advise that you contact your authorized reseller instead of CYC directly as they will be able to help you more effectively in your options since they will already have your purchase history. Prices may differ based on your country and selected authorized reseller.

Photon Chainring Version for 34T

In April 2024, Photon kits with the 34T chainring options will be shipped with the new version. 

Why did we change the design?

1. Mechanical interlocking between parts: The chainring connects to the “spider” of the motor via spline and not threaded on as before to enhance reliability under vibration
2. The carbon bash guard: It was not providing much protection against rocks. Now the bash guard is 5-7mm thick aluminum that is strong enough to take impact without being broken.
3. Serviceability: The chainring is now replaceable. Before, it will be sold as one part and you could not replace the chainring itself.
