X1 Stealth Gen 3: Motor Running without input (Runaway motor):

Symptoms

The motor will run as soon as you are in Assist level 1 without giving any throttle or pedal input.

Reasons

  1. Physical Damage from the throttle, Wiring harness/connector or Torque sensor wire/connector
  2. Faulty Throttle signal
  3. Faulty Torque Sensor signal
  4. The installation on the spindle and BB lock ring is too tight and over-torqued. (Incorrect installation.)

Checklist

  1. Check the throttle for any clear damage
  2. Inspect all connectors, especially the pins to check for any damage and bent pins.
Checking for bent pins or if pins may have been bent and bent back is crucial as this is could result in the error. You need to inspect the female side of the connectors as well for dents as this is an indication that the connectors were forced in. If there are signs that the pins or connectors are damaged, replace the wiring only.
  3. Check the crankset installation is done correctly and not over-tightened.

Troubleshoot

  1. Please turn off the throttle control and Pedal Assist in the App and make sure the motor is in assist level 0.

  1. Turn on either Throttle Control and set the motor to assist level 1.
    1. Record the Throttle voltage reading and check if the motor starts spinning on its own. If the motor is spinning and there is a throttle voltage reading, then go to Solution 1.
  2. Turn off the Throttle Control in the App and turn on the Pedal Assist and set the motor to assist level 1.
    1. Record the Human input value on the dashboard.  If the motor runs and there is a human input reading, then go to solution 2
  3. If the motor is spinning in both step 2 and 3 and there are no readings on the App, then go to solution 3.

Solution

1. Replace the Throttle if the motor runs itself when the throttle control is on.

2. Replace the Torque Sensor if the motor runs itself when Pedal Assist is on.

3. Replace the Controller if the motor runs itself when Pedal Assist is on and when the throttle is on.
