Overview

Follow this guide to safely remove and replace the gearbox on your motor unit.


Tools Needed:

  • Hex wrenches
  • C-clip pliers
  • Loctite 242 (optional)
  • Clean cloth


Step 1: Prepare the Motor

  1. Remove the motor from the bike frame.
  2. Uninstall these components:
    1. Freewheel and chainring assembly
    2. Motor chain and chain tensioner
    3. Controller


Step 2: Remove the Sprocket

  1. Use c-clip pliers to remove the C-clip on the 11T sprocket.
  2. Slide the sprocket off the gearshaft.
  3. Take note of:
    1. The orientation of the sleeve
    2. The metal key on the shaft (Do not lose this.)


Step 3: Remove the Gearbox

  1. Loosen the gearbox bolts.
  2. Remove the motor bracket.
  3. Carefully pull the gearbox off the motor.


Step 4: Install the New Gearbox

  1. Place the new gearbox onto the motor.
  2. Align the gearbox so that the chain tensioner holes are perpendicular to the motor cables.


Step 5: Reinstall the Sprocket

  1. Insert the metal key into the shaft.
  2. Slide the sleeves and sprocket back into place.
  3. Secure the sprocket using the C-clip.


Step 6: Secure the Motor Bracket

  1. Reattach the motor bracket using the three bolts.
  2. Reinstall all remove components and mount the motor back on the frame.
